About the Museum Campus

Chicago’s amazing Museum Campus houses three of the city’s historic institutions in one place! Spend a day exploring the natural world at the Field Museum, the underwater world of aquatic animals at the Shedd Aquarium, and space at the Adler Planetarium.

Field Museum
The Field Museum was founded in 1893 to house the biological and anthropological collections assembled for the World’s Columbian Exposition. Now one of the world’s greatest and largest museums of natural history, its collection has grown to an incredible 24 million objects, including dinosaur fossils, ancient mummies, exquisite gemstones, and much, much more!

Shedd Aquarium
The Shedd Aquarium combines the best of the early 20th century “age of aquarium” characteristics – a diverse, global animal collection surrounded by amazing architecture – with 21st century advances in animal care and environments.

Adler Planetarium
The Adler Planetarium, which opened in 1930, is America’s first planetarium and has become a recognized leader in science education. Special exhibitions, immersive theater programs, and events such as lectures and viewing parties allow visitors to journey through the vast universe. The museum is home to three full-size theaters, including the Grainger Sky Theater, fashioned as a virtual observatory, the all-digital projection Definiti Space Theater for the 3D Universe Theater.
